Bible Readings

Ruth 1:1-19a

【Rut 1:1】In the days when the judges ruled, [ Traditionally judged ] there was a famine in the land. So a man from Bethlehem in Judah, together with his wife and two sons, went to live for a while in the country of Moab.

【Rut 1:2】The man’s name was Elimelek, his wife’s name was Naomi, and the names of his two sons were Mahlon and Kilion. They were Ephrathites from Bethlehem, Judah. And they went to Moab and lived there.

【Rut 1:3】Now Elimelek, Naomi’s husband, died, and she was left with her two sons.

【Rut 1:4】They married Moabite women, one named Orpah and the other Ruth. After they had lived there about ten years,

【Rut 1:5】both Mahlon and Kilion also died, and Naomi was left without her two sons and her husband.

【Rut 1:6】When Naomi heard in Moab that the Lord had come to the aid of his people by providing food for them, she and her daughters-in-law prepared to return home from there.

【Rut 1:7】With her two daughters-in-law she left the place where she had been living and set out on the road that would take them back to the land of Judah.

【Rut 1:8】Then Naomi said to her two daughters-in-law, “Go back, each of you, to your mother’s home. May the Lord show you kindness, as you have shown kindness to your dead husbands and to me.

【Rut 1:9】May the Lord grant that each of you will find rest in the home of another husband.” Then she kissed them goodbye and they wept aloud

【Rut 1:10】and said to her, “We will go back with you to your people.”

【Rut 1:11】But Naomi said, “Return home, my daughters. Why would you come with me? Am I going to have any more sons, who could become your husbands?

【Rut 1:12】Return home, my daughters; I am too old to have another husband. Even if I thought there was still hope for me—even if I had a husband tonight and then gave birth to sons—

【Rut 1:13】would you wait until they grew up? Would you remain unmarried for them? No, my daughters. It is more bitter for me than for you, because the Lord’s hand has turned against me!”

【Rut 1:14】At this they wept aloud again. Then Orpah kissed her mother-in-law goodbye, but Ruth clung to her.

【Rut 1:15】“Look,” said Naomi, “your sister-in-law is going back to her people and her gods. Go back with her.”

【Rut 1:16】But Ruth replied, “Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God.

【Rut 1:17】Where you die I will die, and there I will be buried. May the Lord deal with me, be it ever so severely, if even death separates you and me.”

【Rut 1:18】When Naomi realized that Ruth was determined to go with her, she stopped urging her.

【Rut 1:19】So the two women went on until they came to Bethlehem. When they arrived in Bethlehem, the whole town was stirred because of them, and the women exclaimed, “Can this be Naomi?”

2 Timothy 2:1-13

【2Ti 2:1】You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.

【2Ti 2:2】And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.

【2Ti 2:3】Join with me in suffering, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.

【2Ti 2:4】No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in civilian affairs, but rather tries to please his commanding officer.

【2Ti 2:5】Similarly, anyone who competes as an athlete does not receive the victor’s crown except by competing according to the rules.

【2Ti 2:6】The hardworking farmer should be the first to receive a share of the crops.

【2Ti 2:7】Reflect on what I am saying, for the Lord will give you insight into all this.

【2Ti 2:8】Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, descended from David. This is my gospel,

【2Ti 2:9】for which I am suffering even to the point of being chained like a criminal. But God’s word is not chained.

【2Ti 2:10】Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory.

【2Ti 2:11】Here is a trustworthy saying: If we died with him, we will also live with him;

【2Ti 2:12】if we endure, we will also reign with him. If we disown him, he will also disown us;

【2Ti 2:13】if we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot disown himself.

Luke 17:11-19

【Luk 17:11】Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus traveled along the border between Samaria and Galilee.

【Luk 17:12】As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy [ The Greek word traditionally translated leprosy was used for various diseases affecting the skin. ] met him. They stood at a distance

【Luk 17:13】and called out in a loud voice, “Jesus, Master, have pity on us!”

【Luk 17:14】When he saw them, he said, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed.

【Luk 17:15】One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice.

【Luk 17:16】He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him—and he was a Samaritan.

【Luk 17:17】Jesus asked, “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine?

【Luk 17:18】Has no one returned to give praise to God except this foreigner?”

【Luk 17:19】Then he said to him, “Rise and go; your faith has made you well.”

Spend some time in prayer with our Heavenly Father. He asks us to pray, to talk with Him. Like a father and his child. Bring to Him your problems and your difficult situations. Bring to Him your hopes and desires. Praise Him and give Him thanks for all He’s done.

Share your life with Him,

because He loves you.

Go in peace and serve the Lord!
