English Worship 7.24

“We gather each week for Christian worship and fellowship, following a historic tradition that unites people of diverse backgrounds by the sharing of the Good News of Jesus Christ.”

We are glad you are here, from wherever you are – rejoicing in the hope of our Savior Jesus!

Below, please find our Sermon audio, bible readings and some songs. Set some time aside today if you are able, either alone or with some friends or family, and enter into an intentional time of worship with our God. May He bless you today and may you know that Jesus is always with you! 🙂

 “Lord, Teach us to Pray”

What do you talk to God about? Today in worship, Jesus teaches his disciples to pray.  Because Jesus has come and made himself our friend, brother, and savior, we are bold to talk to God in prayer as our loving Father.  How much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!

Bible Readings

Genesis 18:17-33

【Gen 18:17】Then the Lord said, “Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do?

【Gen 18:18】Abraham will surely become a great and powerful nation, and all nations on earth will be blessed through him. [ Or will use his name in blessings (see 48:20) ]

【Gen 18:19】For I have chosen him, so that he will direct his children and his household after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing what is right and just, so that the Lord will bring about for Abraham what he has promised him.”

【Gen 18:20】Then the Lord said, “The outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is so great and their sin so grievous

【Gen 18:21】that I will go down and see if what they have done is as bad as the outcry that has reached me. If not, I will know.”

【Gen 18:22】The men turned away and went toward Sodom, but Abraham remained standing before the Lord. [ Masoretic Text; an ancient Hebrew scribal tradition but the Lord remained standing before Abraham ]

【Gen 18:23】Then Abraham approached him and said: “Will you sweep away the righteous with the wicked?

【Gen 18:24】What if there are fifty righteous people in the city? Will you really sweep it away and not spare [ Or forgive; also in verse 26 ] the place for the sake of the fifty righteous people in it?

【Gen 18:25】Far be it from you to do such a thing—to kill the righteous with the wicked, treating the righteous and the wicked alike. Far be it from you! Will not the Judge of all the earth do right?”

【Gen 18:26】The Lord said, “If I find fifty righteous people in the city of Sodom, I will spare the whole place for their sake.”

【Gen 18:27】Then Abraham spoke up again: “Now that I have been so bold as to speak to the Lord, though I am nothing but dust and ashes,

【Gen 18:28】what if the number of the righteous is five less than fifty? Will you destroy the whole city for lack of five people?” “If I find forty-five there,” he said, “I will not destroy it.”

【Gen 18:29】Once again he spoke to him, “What if only forty are found there?” He said, “For the sake of forty, I will not do it.”

【Gen 18:30】Then he said, “May the Lord not be angry, but let me speak. What if only thirty can be found there?” He answered, “I will not do it if I find thirty there.”

【Gen 18:31】Abraham said, “Now that I have been so bold as to speak to the Lord, what if only twenty can be found there?” He said, “For the sake of twenty, I will not destroy it.”

【Gen 18:32】Then he said, “May the Lord not be angry, but let me speak just once more. What if only ten can be found there?” He answered, “For the sake of ten, I will not destroy it.”

【Gen 18:33】When the Lord had finished speaking with Abraham, he left, and Abraham returned home.

Colossians 2:6-15

【Col 2:6】So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him,

【Col 2:7】rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.

【Col 2:8】See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces [ Or the basic principles; also in verse 20 ] of this world rather than on Christ.

【Col 2:9】For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form,

【Col 2:10】and in Christ you have been brought to fullness. He is the head over every power and authority.

【Col 2:11】In him you were also circumcised with a circumcision not performed by human hands. Your whole self ruled by the flesh [ In contexts like this, the Greek word for flesh (sarx) refers to the sinful state of human beings, often presented as a power in opposition to the Spirit; also in verse 13. ] was put off when you were circumcised by [ Or put off in the circumcision of ] Christ,

【Col 2:12】having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through your faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead.

【Col 2:13】When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you [ Some manuscripts us ] alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins,

【Col 2:14】having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross.

【Col 2:15】And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross. [ Or them in him ]

Luke 11:1-13

【Luk 11:1】One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.”

【Luk 11:2】He said to them, “When you pray, say: “‘Father, [ Some manuscripts Our Father in heaven ] hallowed be your name, your kingdom come. [ Some manuscripts come. May your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. ]

【Luk 11:3】Give us each day our daily bread.

【Luk 11:4】Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us. [ Greek everyone who is indebted to us ] And lead us not into temptation. [ Some manuscripts temptation, but deliver us from the evil one ] ’”

【Luk 11:5】Then Jesus said to them, “Suppose you have a friend, and you go to him at midnight and say, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves of bread;

【Luk 11:6】a friend of mine on a journey has come to me, and I have no food to offer him.’

【Luk 11:7】And suppose the one inside answers, ‘Don’t bother me. The door is already locked, and my children and I are in bed. I can’t get up and give you anything.’

【Luk 11:8】I tell you, even though he will not get up and give you the bread because of friendship, yet because of your shameless audacity [ Or yet to preserve his good name ] he will surely get up and give you as much as you need.

【Luk 11:9】“So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.

【Luk 11:10】For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

【Luk 11:11】“Which of you fathers, if your son asks for [ Some manuscripts for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for ] a fish, will give him a snake instead?

【Luk 11:12】Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion?

【Luk 11:13】If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”

Spend some time in prayer with our Heavenly Father. He asks us to pray, to talk with Him. Like a father and his child. Bring to Him your problems and your difficult situations. Bring to Him your hopes and desires. Praise Him and give Him thanks for all He’s done.

Share your life with Him,

because He loves you.

Go in peace and serve the Lord!
